My story on "ideas.rip" - how I decided not to pursue a great idea

Many founders want their next startup to do something good in this world. For a while, I pursued this direction and learned just how complex and not straightforward it is. I learned how the existing venture capital models don’t fit this space and what many founders neglect to consider. Let me tell you a short story about a climate startup idea of mine that didn’t result in a company - and why it happened.
After @Approve’s exit, I decided to travel the world for a bit, and during my trip, I had much time to think. I started drafting ideas and directions for a startup that would make a change in the climate space. One of the things I learned is how bad untreated wastewater is for the environment - and I decided to try and tackle this issue.
I ran into several obstacles,  the main one being the misalignment between popular funding models and the nature of infrastructure projects - the initial investment must be big, but it doesn’t really scale. VC money just can’t work here. I knew I was trying to solve a big and valid problem, but I couldn’t find the path forward to make it happen at the time.
So if you are an aspiring founder in the climate tech field, please read our story. I hope that you’ll be able to think outside the box and succeed where we failed.
